Fast Five with Dr. Michael Lach

Eastern Radiologists is happy to welcome Michael Lach, DO, a neuroradiologist, who joined our practice in July 2020. Dr. Lach attended medical school at Midwestern University – Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his diagnostic radiology residency and fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. We are thrilled to have you with us, Dr. Lach!

How do you like NC coming from Ohio? Have you transitioned well to Greenville?

My family moved to NC a little over 6 months ago and we have enjoyed our time here so far. The weather transition from cold Ohio to NC has been wonderful. We’ve been able to spend a lot more time doing outdoor activities which has been amazing. We specifically wanted to move somewhere warmer since my daughter, Reese (2), loves being outside. We always knew that we wanted to end up in a smaller city to raise our family and Greenville definitely has that small town feel.

What led you to choose Neuroradiology?

I completed my residency and fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. The residency gave me a great foundation in radiology, but I was drawn to the complex anatomy and diverse pathology of neuroradiology. I enjoyed working with the neurologists and neurosurgeons while helping patients and it made the decision to become a neuroradiologist easy. I have found my passion in this field and am excited to continue as a neuroradiologist at Eastern Radiologists.

What led you into the medical field?

My family was a big influence in my decision to become a physician. My mom was in the nursing field for over 30 years. My dad was a general surgeon with experience in trauma and critical case for over 30 years. I spent my childhood with a lot of exposure to the medical field and felt like it was a calling. During my undergrad years, I trained as a EMT and Paramedic. These experiences solidified my decision to enter the medical field. My brother and I are both practicing physicians. We had a great experience together while attending the same medical school. You could say that medicine runs deep in our family.

Why Eastern Radiologists?

I interviewed with several practices and Eastern Radiologists stood out to me from the beginning. I really enjoyed the diverse backgrounds in the Neuroradiology group. I knew that I would be working with some very experienced colleagues. ERI allows me to focus on my subspecialty field which was a main attraction to the group. Coming from the Cleveland Clinic, I knew that I wanted to continue to see a wide variety of pathology. ERI continues to evaluate complex cases which was of importance when making my decision

You have a day off with some free time…what will you be doing?

My family and I have been exploring NC during my time off. We loved visiting the OBX over the summer and hope to see more of the state this spring. My 2 year old also keeps me busy when I have time off. She’s on the go all the time and I love spending time with her and my wife.
