Fast Five with Dr. Bair E. Tsytsik

Eastern Radiologists is thrilled to welcome Bair E. Tsytsik, MD, DABR, who joined our practice at the beginning of July 2022. We are ecstatic to have you with us, Dr. Tsytsik!

Coming from Texas, how are you transitioning to the Northeast? Have you found a favorite local spot?

I grew up on the East Coast and I am glad to be back. It’s rejuvenating to be near the ocean and tall trees again. We just only started to explore the area but so far our favorite place to go for a weekend trip is Jockey’s Ridge State Park, which has fantastic views and is the perfect place to fly a kite.

What led you to choose Diagnostic Radiology?

Since I was a child, I have always loved to tinker. Figuring how out how all the pieces work and fit together drives me, for better or for worse, but inevitably fostered my interest in physics, biochemistry and ultimately the human body. I was also drawn to building computers and in medical school I discovered that I very much enjoyed learning anatomy. Diagnostic Radiology perfectly combines all of those interests. Being a general radiologist was the frosting on the cake, since it allows me to read as well as work with my hands a little bit.

What has been one of your favorite work experiences so far?

My favorite work experience so far has been my residency, which I completed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Admittedly, I was a little nervous about what the Army would have in store for me but I can say now the experience was invaluable. There were people from all over the world, who have been to all sorts of places and had so many stories to tell, like using a field grade ultrasound probe to place a central line…on a dolphin. But never mind. Seeing how big (and how small) the world is through others’ eyes really made me value the people standing next to me, where I was and what I was doing.

Why Eastern Radiologists?

I decided on Eastern Radiologists because I like the location and the opportunity to fully apply my skills. I moved around a lot throughout my life but mostly to and from big cities and so I developed a longing for big grassy fields and big skies. I also wanted to remain a general radiologist in a smaller community based hospital. Eastern Radiologists allowed me to have all of those things. As a bonus, I’m also a drive away from extended family, which is very nice to have when you have 2 toddlers requiring your attention at all times of the day.

You have a day off with some free time…what will you be doing?

I’m probably out exploring with my wife and 2 kids. While the kids are napping, I’m reading Penrose’s “The Road to Reality,” working on my off-grid home solar project or sitting on my back porch enjoying the breeze and watching the clouds roll by.
