As you age, your body naturally loses bone density. If you lose too much bone mass, you can develop osteoporosis. Although osteoporosis is more common in women, both women and men are at risk. A Bone Density exam can help assess your overall bone health.
Risk factors of Osteoporosis include any of the following:
Over the age of 65 (regardless of additional risk factors)
Post-menopausal woman with history of a fractured bone
Have been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
Small, thin frame
Have a family history of osteoporosis
Smoker or drink more than one alcoholic beverage per day
Have prolonged exposure to steroids
